Second Congregational Church, CCCC
CELIA'S
100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

REFLECTIONS ... By S. Caron

Celia Foster was born in Pittsfield, Maine on October 26th, 1909 to Lemuel and Elsie Norton. She was the youngest of three children. She remembers her mother as being very protective and she always remained very close to her...even to this day she still keeps, her picture close by and thinks of her often.

Celia graduated from Newport High School in 1929 and moved to Bangor shortly after because her dad took a job in Bangor at Sweets Drug Store where her uncle ran the store for the Sweets. After moving to Bangor Celia went to work for W.T. Grant Company. (The store at the time was located on Main Street across from Freeses.)She continued working at W. T. Grant Co. for 29 years where she was in charge of the sewing department, ordering necessary supplies, etc.

In her younger years Celia loved to dance and spent many Saturday nights at the Chateau in Bangor.

She has 3 daughters, Joan who lives in Dexter, Linda in Ripley and Deborah who lives in Newton, Mass.

Celia lived in Orrington most of her married life and while there she was active in the Millwee Chapter of the Eastern Star, a Brownie Leader, Secretary of the Orrington PTA and a member of the Orrington Garden Club (which she still belongs to).

Also in the late 1970's she and her husband owned an "Antiques and Collectable" Shop in their home in Orrington. They enjoyed traveling around the state buying for their business.

She has attended the Second Congregational Church since 1952. She became a member of the "Joanna" Club. (A group of eight or ten ladies that met at each others homes and played cards and socialized.) The group decided to disband a few years ago and donated all remaining funds to the Women's Fellowship of the church.

Celia spends spare time reading and she always enjoys a good game of cards with friends or watching a good movie on TV. She attends church regularly and enjoys going out to eat with her friends after the service.

When going out to eat she admits to enjoying a good steak - medium rare or a good fish chowder.

Celia says she never goes to bed without saying her prayers and she has a wonderful philosophy of life..... to stay active and don't give up!

Thank you Celia for sharing some of your memories with us and for being such a fine example to all of us. We are so thankful to have such a dedicated member in our church family.

Our Best wishes for a Happy Birthday on October 26th!

Celia had her two birthday celebrations. One at the Weather Vane restaurant, celebrated by her family and friends and another at church.
